Rebels get young gun.
By Francisco Canjura - Castlegar News Published: August 11, 2009
The Castlegar Rebels have acquired the rights to Sicamous Eagles forward Luke
Richardson in exchange for Corey Bulach. Rebels head coach and general
manager Brent Heaven said the trade came as Bulach had wanted to move closer
to home. “We wanted to do what was right for him and his family and get him
back to a comfortable situation,” said Heaven. In 23 game last year Bulach
scored three goals and had seven assists. In Richardson the Rebels may get a
top notch forward who got 35 points for the Eagles last year. Richardson
scored 16 goals and had 19 assists in 50 games. Heaven said they don’t know
if Richardson will dress for the Rebels as he will be trying out for a Junior
A squad. However, if he does play for the Rebels Heaven said they’ll get a
gifted forward who is really close to making the step to Junior A.
“We expect that if he doesn’t make the
Junior A squad he can come in and contribute at a fairly high level. He can
be a guy that can fill in some of that offence that we’re going to be missing
from last year’s line-up,” said Heaven. He added the Rebels are excited to
add Richardson to their line-up. “Hopefully he makes the step to Junior A for
his progression, but if he doesn’t we’re definitely going to be excited to
have him here and help develop him and get him up to the next level,” he
said. If Richardson does make the squad, Heaven said the Rebels will have to
re-work their deal with the Eagles to get another player. The Rebels will
hold their training camp from August 27-29 and Heaven said they’re looking to
fill spots on defence and forward. “If anyone is interested in possibly
playing for the Rebels this year they can definitely come out and give it
their best shot,” said Heaven. |

Rebels
and Selkirk College Sign Educational Agreement July
11 2008
The Castlegar Rebels are pleased to announce the signing of a cooperative
agreement with Selkirk College. Under the terms of the new partnership,
players who have signed with the Castlegar Rebels and who plan on attending
full or part time studies at Selkirk College will have the opportunity
to earn a scholarship with their enrolment. The agreement allows select Castlegar Rebels players enrolled with Selkirk College, either as a
fulltime or part-time student, to be eligible for scholarship funding to
augment the costs of their tuition, and books.
After completion of their playing days with the Rebels Hockey Club, selected
players will also have an opportunity to participate on Selkirk College’s
own hockey team based in the BC Intercollegiate Hockey League (BCIHL). This
up coming season, the Saints will compete in a 16 game schedule against
teams from UVIC, SFU, UCFV and Trinity Western College. The agreement will
also recognize the Castlegar Rebels players as student athletes in Selkirk
College and ensures that its players are enrolled in appropriate and
relevant academic programs at Selkirk College.
President of the Rebels Jim Craig said "We are ecstatic with this
agreement with Selkirk College in that it reconfirms the Rebels commitment
to the development of our players both from and athletic and academic
perspective. This agreement solidifies our joint commitment to the
educational development of our players." |
